Don't Just Dim the Lights: How to Create Inclusive Environments in the Arts for All to Enjoy (A Symposium)

  • Omaha Community Playhouse 6915 Cass Street Omaha, NE, 68132 United States (map)

Weitz Family Foundation and Common Senses Festival invite you to a half day symposium on what makes a performance or gallery a truly inclusive environment for individuals with cognitive disabilities and/or sensory sensitivities.

Hear from renowned national experts not only on the how to for inclusive experiences but also the why, and learn about a pilot program that bridges the arts to the clinical world.

The terms ‘sensory friendly’ or ‘relaxed setting’ are common vernacular among arts educators and administrators. Museums, theaters, dance companies, movie theaters, etc. are offering sensory friendly performances and experiences throughout the country.

While it is encouraging to see the cultural sector provide opportunities for this population, there is still much work to be done in shifting the perception that these experiences are ‘special’ into making accommodations that are good for everyone, every day.

Speakers: Dr. Roger Ideishi, Lisa Porter, & Dr. Matthew Lerner
