Kate Noble Weitz

Common Senses Founder and Director

Common Senses Founder and Director, Kate Noble Weitz spent a decade working in various fundraising and education positions in the performing arts. After her son was diagnosed with autism, her focus shifted to disability advocacy in Omaha, Nebraska. As a parent advocate, she thrives on connecting self-advocates, researchers, professors, disability professionals, and artists in the hopes of furthering disability acceptance and to create a thriving accessible community. Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Beloit College, a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from Indiana University and a LEND (Leadership in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities) graduate from Stonybrook University.

Roger Weitz

Director of Special Projects

Roger Weitz is the Director of Special Projects for Common Senses Festival, a new non-profit organization whose mission is to explore and celebrate the uniqueness and commonalities of all of humanity with a focus on arts, science, and disability awareness.  Roger’s background includes arts administration and fundraising; he most recently served as General Director (CEO) of Opera Omaha. Under his leadership Opera Omaha grew significantly, doubling its patron base and exponentially expanding the number of individuals engaged though community programming and partnerships. With Opera Omaha, Roger developed and launched an annual festival of new work centering contemporary artists, as well as a groundbreaking community engagement initiative steeped in civic practice, the Holland Community Opera Fellowship. Roger’s arts administration career began in 2000 as the Artistic Administrator for Chicago Opera Theater. He left Chicago in 2007 to accept an Arts Management Fellowship at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts under the direction of Michael M. Kaiser. Upon completion of the Fellowship, Roger returned to Chicago Opera Theater in a new capacity, as the company’s General Manager. To date, Roger has managed the planning and creation of over 60 new productions including numerous local, regional, and world premieres. He served two consecutive terms on the Board of Directors of OPERA America, the national service organization for the field of opera, and currently serves as an Advisory Board member for the Brooklyn-based arts company, Vision Into Art.

Lauren Oehm

Deputy Director

Lauren Oehm is the Deputy Director of Common Senses Festival, with over thirteen years of experience working in various capacities within the disability community. Lauren’s passion for working in the field started when she was a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (Go Mavs!) and began working with Freddie. Her curiosity about the overlap of services and how different sectors could collaborate to better serve their clients and students led her to pursue her master’s degree. Most recently, Lauren started an after-school social group for young adults with autism at a local non-profit to provide a fun and safe space for individuals to hang out, engage in activities, and share similar experiences. Lauren volunteered during the first Common Senses Festival in 2022 and fell in love with meeting the patrons, hearing their stories about what the festival meant to them, and how thoughtful and welcoming the events were for everyone in the community. Growing up in Omaha, Lauren’s work at Common Senses furthers her passion to make Omaha the most accepting community where similarities and uniqueness are celebrated.

Freddie Weitz

Resident dare devil and chief beta tester, Freddie is the inspiration behind Common Senses Festival. Brutally honest in his opinions, Freddie leads the curation of many of the Common Senses Festival’s programs. When not roaming the halls of Tiger Academy, you can find him jumping, swimming, mountain biking or shredding the ski slopes.
